CNI, National Confederation of Industry Brazil supports the EUBrasil Seminar, in view of the Dialogue on Information Society and Media between Europe and Brazil

On Wednesday, September 22 will take place in Brussels, at the European Parliament (6Q1 Batiment Antall, from 3 p.m to 6 p.m) the EUBrasil Seminar, in cooperation with CNI, BUSINESSEUROPE and Cullen International, in view of the Dialogue on Information Society and Media between Europe and Brazil.

CNI represents twenty-seven Industry Federations in the states and Federal District. Over a thousand associated setorial employers organization and 196 thousand industrial establishments. CNI is the Voice of the Brazilian Industry, an organization highly active in defense of the productive sector with a mission to boost Brazilian Industry competitiveness. In order to guarantee the existence of a suitable environment for doing business, CNI ensures that the industrial community actively participates in the formulation of public policies.

BUSINESSEUROPE plays a crucial role in Europe as the main horizontal business organisation at EU level. Through its 40 member federations, BUSINESSEUROPE represents 20 million companies from 34 countries. Its main task is to ensure that companies’ interests are represented and defended vis-à-vis the European institutions with the principal aim of preserving and strengthening corporate competitiveness.

Cullen International provides a unique range of regulatory monitoring services on telecommunications, media and electronic commerce, covering the European Union and 30 European countries.

The decision to organize the event Day of Dialogue on Information Society and Media between Europe and Brazil is recorded in the statement that closed the Europe-Brazil Summit, held on July 14, 2010 in Brasilia, attended by the President of Brazil Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, the President of the European Council Herman Van Rompuy, and the European Commission President José Manuel Durão Barroso.

“It will be an important new opportunity – for the Association EUBrasil – of confrontation and dialogue between authorities and industry in Brazil and Europe to strengthen cooperation between the areas of legislation, policy and research in the sector”

It is foreseen the participation of Augusto Gadelha Vice Minister of Science and Technology for ITand of Rodrigo Baena Soares Special Advisor Secretariat for Social Communication Presidency of the Federative Republic of Brazil

Also it is foreseen the attendance of Stefano Sannino Deputy Director-General of the Directorate-General for External Relations (DG RELEX) Responsible for relations with Latin America – European Commission, Detlef Eckert Director Lisbon Strategy and Policies for the Information Society – Directorate General Information Society and Media European Commission, Rogerio Simoes Director BBC Brasil, Antonio Robalo de Almeida Chairman of ETNO European Telecommunications Network Operators Association, Director of Portugal Telecom, Eduardo Navarro Chief Strategy Officer for Latin America Telefonica, Fabio Colasanti, a member of the EUBrasil Board, Alfredo Valladão, Board member and Chairman of the EUBrasil Advisory Board, Kaisa Olkkonen Vice President Nokia Brussels, Mario Girasole VP Public Affairs TIM Brasil, and representatives from European and Brazilian Institutions and industries.

Elena Scaramuzzi of Cullen International will present an exclusive report on the European and Brazilian ICT policies of the two areas

Among the topics to be discussed by the EUBrasil seminar, the Brazilian plan for broadband and European digital agenda, as well as policies to reduce the “digital divide”.
